Finding Rest

Pastor’s Pen

Mark 6:31-32

31, Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them. “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

32, So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.

This is from the story of Jesus and the disciples just after they had been part of the feeding of the five thousand. People were everywhere, all looking to the disciples as they handed out the food that Jesus had prayed over and divinely multiplied. The disciples were so amazed and thrilled to be a part of this incredible event. Yet, they were worn down, and tired.

This week as I sat and pondered about the church, and all the amazing people that get things up and running week after week, this scripture just took on a relevant meaning for me. I saw the people of Foundation as the disciples: the nursery workers, the greeters, the children’s ministry teachers and helpers, the coffee team, security, VBS team, music team, student ministry team, the sound and video team, the cleaning team and the list continues to grow. It is my desire that everyone who attends Foundation will find a place that fits their skill set to serve in some way. Each week people serve people in all forms and capacities, at church and by helping people get to church. People helping people to Know, Grow and Show Jesus. You are an amazing church of sacrificial servants.

Just like this scripture, Jesus told the disciples to get away and rest. So, they got into a boat and went to a solitary place. We are all going to our solitary homes each and everyday due to COVID 19. Although we do not really have much of a choice, we have been uniquely forced to rest.

During this season of our lives, let’s take advantage to this time and rest, restore, and recover. Ministry can take a lot out of people. It can wear us down. Even though we love what we do and love the people God has placed into our lives, ministry can take a toll. I miss all of you around the church, but this time can greatly prepare each of us to once again serve each other as the church does so well when it is safe.

Rest, Restore and Recover. God has great plans for each of you and for Foundation.

This is a season to not only survive but to thrive.
